It’s less than a month away, but before you know it Summer 2012 will be officially here. The following tips will help you get your skin ready for its moment in the sun.
Nourish Dry Skin
Exposure to the sun can leave skin dehydrated. If you naturally have dry skin, the hot summer months can make it even worse. A great way to boost your hydration levels is with an intensive hydrating facial that deeply delivers moisture to the lower layers of skin. You’ll notice a difference right away in the way your skin looks and feels. For day-to-day care, use a toner to activate your skin’s natural oils, which will improve dry skin over time.
Always Use Sunscreen
Get into the habit of putting on sunscreen every day. This is the best way to protect your skin from premature aging and skin cancers. Get a broad-spectrum sunscreen that blocks both UVA and UVB and has an SPF rating of at least 30. Apply it 20 minutes before going outside to allow it to penetrate, use an adequate amount, and reapply every two hours while outside. Be sure to check the expiration date of any sunscreen you may have from last summer and throw away anything that’s expired. When in doubt, throw it out.
Add Antioxidants
Consuming and applying certain antioxidants, especially vitamin C, will actually boost your skin’s strength against the sun’s damaging rays. Grab a high-quality vitamin C serum to add to your daily skin-care regimen, and eat plenty of berries, beans, nuts, citrus and green vegetables to add protection from the inside out.
Start Good Habits
Start now with a good diet and plenty of daily exercise, especially when paired with good sleep and a stringently followed skin-care plan. Cut back on simple carbs, especially sugar, and make time for some regular exercise.
