What Is BOTOX?
BOTOX is one of the best known and most popular injectable treatments for reducing fine lines and wrinkles in the face. It’s been a key tool for plastic surgeons and medical spas for decades and remains a trusted favorite for professionals and clients with a track record of safety and satisfaction.
BOTOX is made from a purified form of the bacteria known as botulinum toxin which blocks the nerve signals to the muscle in which it’s injected. This keeps muscles from contracting and gets rid of small wrinkles. There are several types of injectable botulinum toxin available, with BOTOX as the most widely recognized brand.
BOTOX Treatments: Safety and Esthetic Philosophy Matter
There are two super important reasons why getting your BOTOX treatment from a qualified provider matters. This means using a trusted medical office or medi-spa with trained nurses on staff rather than trying a BOTOX party or using an online coupon.
First and most important is safety. Too much BOTOX can cause problems in nearby muscles. A trained provider will use just the right amount to freeze the muscles that cause wrinkles while leaving the rest of your face unaffected. The registered nurses on staff at Radiance have the training and experience to get your treatment just right.
Second – and a bigger factor than you might realize – is philosophy. When we talk about BOTOX, we’re talking about your face–your gorgeous, unique face. We know you don’t want to leave it in the hands of someone who isn’t quite sure what they’re doing. Our medical director Dr. Philip Chang and our staff are committed to giving patients a youthful yet natural look and avoiding the “frozen face” look that’s the subject of so many jokes. We pay careful attention to esthetics and realize that a BOTOX treatment isn’t just about wiping out wrinkles–it’s about helping you achieve the look you want.
Where Does BOTOX Work Best?
BOTOX is a tried and true solution for mild and moderate wrinkles in and near the face. It’s most often used on frown lines around the mouth, crow’s feet around the eyes and forehead creases or worry lines between the brows (also fondly referred to as the “elevens” since these lines often resemble that number). It’s also successful in treating creases on the upper lip (this treatment is especially popular with smokers and former smokers) and reducing neck bands and chin dimpling. If you have deeper wrinkles or problems that go beyond fine lines, we have a range of surgical and non-surgical solutions we can suggest.
BOTOX FAQs
Is it safe?
BOTOX has been used safely and effectively for 40 years. It’s FDA approved and rarely leads to complications when properly administered. Occasional minimal side effects including bruising, pain and redness at the injection site, headache and temporary facial weakness can occur. But in most cases, clients experience few or no side effects and are able to get back to regular activities right away.
How long does it take to notice results?
Clients generally notice results within a few days to a week.
How long does it last?
Results from a BOTOX treatment usually last three to four months. Lots of our clients simply schedule appointments every season or quarter to keep their results looking fresh–easy breezy.
Does it hurt?
We use a fine needle to administer treatment so there is very little sensation. There may be a tiny bit of swelling or discomfort. We’ll apply a soothing cool compress after treatment. A numbing cream is an option for extra sensitive patients but most don’t need it.
Can I go back to work after treatment?
Most clients are able to return to work and other normal activities directly after treatment. We do advise putting off strenuous activities for a day or so while the BOTOX targets specific muscles.
What precautions should I take right after BOTOX treatment?
Most of our clients leave our office ready to jump back into their work day or meet up with friends. However, there are just a few precautions to keep in mind right after treatment:
- Don’t rub the treated area since it could cause the product to move to another area of your face.
- Wait a day before going back to your intense exercise routine–this also keeps the botulinum from moving out of the targeted muscle area.
- Do not lie down for at least 4 hours after treatment. This helps keep the product placed where you want it.
How Much Does Botox Cost?
The cost of BOTOX treatment will depend on the areas treated and your individual needs. At your first appointment, our staff will talk with you about your goals and take a look at target areas. BOTOX pricing at Radiance is based on units used. To give you a general idea, treatments around the eyebrows, eyes and forehead often take between 10 and 30 units depending on muscle strength and other factors. At Radiance, BOTOX treatments cost $13 per unit, with a special introductory discount for new patients at $11 per unit. And, on BOTOX Fridays (the first and third Friday of each month), you can enjoy the $11 per unit rate. Those appointments fill up fast, so best to plan ahead. The per unit cost also factors in the skill and expertise of the medical professional administering the treatment, not just the product itself.
